Carbon Steel Casting
for Durable Components
Custom carbon steel castings engineered for strength, wear resistance, and cost-effective performance across industrial applications.

About Carbon Steel Casting
Carbon steel is a general-purpose steel that features a good balance of machinability, weldability, castability, mechanical properties, and cost effective. With a melting point range from 1420°C to 1538°C, carbon steel is cast through two processes: investment casting and sand casting. At YTD, we provide both processes for different project requirements: investment casting for precision carbon steel castings under 100 kg and sand casting for large casting that weiging up to tons.
Carbon Steel Castings Build for Your Project
Combining certified materials and precision casting, YTD offers full service to develop your carbon steel parts from concepts to finished components.
Get a QuoteASTM A216 WCB
ASTM A216 WCB is a standard material specification for cast carbon steel widely used in high-temperature and high-pressure service applications. Known for its superior mechanical properties, durability, and cost-effectiveness, WCB is the most popular casting material grade for general industrial pressure-containing components. It performs reliably across working temperatures typically ranging from -29°C (-20°F) to 425°C (800°F).
| Density | Carbon Content | Melting Range | Tensile Strength | Yield Strength | Hardness |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7.85 g/cm³ | ≤0.30% | 1,420–1,540°C (2,588–2,804°F) | 485–620 MPa (70–90 ksi) | 250–350 MPa (36–51 ksi) | 140–200 HB |
ASTM A216 WCC
WCC is a part of the ASTM A216 specification, its a high-strength cast carbon steel that offers higher tensile and yield strength than the widely used Grade WCB, making it an ideal choice for heavy-duty industrial components subjected to moderate elevated temperatures and high working pressures.
| Density | Carbon Content | Melting Range | Tensile Strength | Yield Strength | Hardness |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7.85 g/cm³ | ≤0.25% | 1,420–1,540°C (2,588–2,804°F) | 485–650 MPa (70–94 ksi) | 275–380 MPa (40–55 ksi) | 150–220 HB |
ASTM A27/A27M
ASTM A27 / A27M is the governing standard specification for mild-to-medium-strength carbon steel castings intended for general industrial applications. Unlike ASTM A216 (which specifically targets pressure-containing parts), ASTM A27 focuses on structural components, machinery parts, and heavy equipment frameworks where pressure tightness is not the primary requirement.
It covers multiple grades of carbon steel, categorized by chemical composition and heat treatment requirements. Among these, Grade 65-35 and Grade 70-36 are the most widely specified, offering a reliable blend of structural strength, impact ductility, and excellent post-cast machinability.
| Grade | Density | Carbon Content | Melting Range | Tensile Strength | Yield Strength | Hardness |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60-30 | 7.85 g/cm³ | ≤0.30% | 1,480–1,530°C (2,700–2,785°F) | 415–550 MPa (60–80 ksi) | 205–300 MPa (30–44 ksi) | 130–180 HB |
| 63-35 | 7.85 g/cm³ | ≤0.30% | 1,480–1,525°C (2,700–2,775°F) | 450–600 MPa (65–87 ksi) | 240–350 MPa (35–51 ksi) | 140–190 HB |
| 70-36 | 7.85 g/cm³ | ≤0.35% | 1,460–1,515°C (2,660–2,760°F) | 485–650 MPa (70–94 ksi) | 250–380 MPa (36–55 ksi) | 150–220 HB |
